Wilderness Scout

Solo backcountry performance for the serious tripper

About the Wilderness Scout

The Wilderness Scout is our flagship solo tripping canoe — refined over two decades of backcountry feedback into a hull that balances speed, stability, and load-carrying capacity better than anything else in its class.

Built for paddlers who spend weeks, not weekends, in the backcountry. The Wilderness Scout's asymmetric hull design reduces bow wave interference at cruising speeds, while the flared entry lines shed spray in following seas. A modest rocker of 1.75" front and 2.5" aft gives you enough maneuverability for moving water without sacrificing the tracking that matters on long flatwater crossings. At just 36 lbs in our standard Kevlar composite layup, this is a canoe you'll actually want to portage. Every hull is hand-laid in our Bend, Oregon workshop using bio-based epoxy resins and Kevlar aramid fiber.

Boundary Waters, MN

Paddled this solo for 11 days in the Boundary Waters with a full tripping load. It tracks like a dream, handles wind better than my old canoe, and the portage yoke is the most comfortable I've used. Worth every penny.

I've owned six canoes over 20 years. The Wilderness Scout is the best solo hull I've paddled. Responsive enough for rivers, fast enough for big lakes. The craftsmanship is stunning in person.

Excellent canoe. The only reason I'm giving 4 stars is that the lead time was 10 weeks instead of the quoted 8. Once it arrived, I was completely satisfied. Highly recommend.
